I got my dress :)

Once upon a time I woke up way too early in the morning on the day I was supposed to go shopping for my wedding dress. Luckily, this did not negatively affect my ability to find the perfect dress. After completing my history midterm first thing this morning, I headed to David's Bridal with two of my best friends and my future mother-in-law. I only tried on a few dresses before I found the one. It's not what I had in mind at all. It's ivory, instead of white. It has lace, which I never pictured. But it's perfect. It looks very vintage, almost 1920s style. It's perfect for a winter wedding, and it's perfect for our venue, and it's perfect for me. No pictures until the wedding though :)

I can hear the bells..

With the recent changes in my life I suppose the name of my blog is still accurate. That's right, I just got engaged, last Saturday actually. No, this is not going to become just another wedding blog, but because my family is in Kansas and I am in Utah I am going to keep everyone posted on exactly what is going on with the wedding plans.
The first thing everyone asks when they find out I'm engaged is, "How did he propose?" So I guess I'll answer that once and for all for everyone who's wondering. We went out on a nice date to Tucanos, the most delicious place ever! It's a Brazilian grill where they keep bringing you meat until you ask them to stop. It exceeded expectations. Then we went into Provo to the courthouse across from the old tabernacle, and he asked me there. He, by the way, is Curtis Mitton, and he's pretty great. He also did a great job picking out the ring. It's beautiful and it suits me perfectly! (He went to Jared.)

The next thing everyone wants to know is "When is the big day?" Well we're getting married on December 30th at noon in the Logan temple. We're planning on having the reception the night before but we don't have the reception place picked out yet.
Thus far we've done quite a bit of the planning stuff. We're all done registering (at Macy's, Target, and Walmart). And last night we designed our invitations. Tomorrow I'm going dress shopping and I'm really excited for that! Our colors are black and white with a red accent, just because I think it's classy). I guess that's all that we've done so far, but it's all coming along very nicely!

Our registries:

Macy's (This stuff goes on sale sporadically so check back often!)
Target
Walmart

Geneology, I am Doing It! (#88. Take a Family Histroy Class)

I don't know why I haven't written about this yet, but I took a family history class last fall semester. For a long time I have had an obsession with family history. I guess I just like to know where I come from. This class focused on teaching the proper way to do family history research and I learned so much! Even though the class was to teach me how to do the research, I learned a lot about myself. Doing this research has helped to explain why I am the way I am.
I haven't done a ton of research yet, but I have learned that part of my ancestry is made up of German, Cherokee, and Welsh people. Through other classes I've taken (mostly history) I've learned about these peoples. The Welsh and Germans were known for being particularly fierce. The Welsh were warriors that were never conquered by the Romans when the Roman empire conquered Britain. They were super mean.
The Germans, I think we all know, are pretty mean too. Once upon a time, they were known for their loyalty. Which I think is a pretty awesome.
Last, but not least, are the Cherokee Indians. They are survivors and adaptors.. They survived when the white men settled in their region. They adapted to having them there. They survived the trail of tears. They adapted again to living somewhere completely new to them.
My ancestors took these traits and passed them on to their children. Through many generations these traits may have been watered down some, but I think that I still have a healthy dose of these characteristics. I can be really mean. I'm also very loyal, unless you cross me, then you might just get a double dose of mean. I think that, when I have to, I'm good at surviving and adapting.
This family history class was my favorite class that I've taken at BYU. I learned so much and I love to find out where I come from. It gives me some perspective on where I may be going.

29. Learn to Dance

When I made it my goal to learn to dance I pictured myself waltzing around a ballroom or tango-ing. The last thing I thought of was ballet. I've been told for years that I'm built like a ballerina, but I am the least graceful person that I've ever known. It may be my complete and utter lack of balance, or perhaps my dislike of tights that kept me from pursuing ballet in my early years. However, this last semester a friend of mine was taking a ballet class. He recruited my friend Melissa (who is a magnificent ballerina) and myself to take the class with him. At first it seemed like a brilliant idea. I could get in shape and realize my 'natural' ability. Needless to say, I was far from being a natural. In fact, I suck. In the words of my ballet teacher, "You've never done this before, have you?" I did learn a few things, but I don't know the names of the things that I learned. I can stand on my toes and spin around like a ballerina. I can also do the thing where they tilt their head and stare off into space. That's about all that I mastered. However, I feel like I can now say, I know how to dance. Because even if I can't do it myself, I now know how it's done, and that has to count for something..

Make Beer Bread (#80.)

When I was about 11 years old I had beer bread for the first and only time. It was so good! I decided that I wanted to make it myself, mostly so that I would have an excuse to buy alcohol. I of course had to wait until I was 21 to do this so that I could buy my own beer. I finally got around to making this bread about a month ago.
I started by going to Walmart, of course. My friends Tiffany and Curtis accompanied me. We all got carded at the cash register, which was pretty fun. We didn't make it that night though.
The next day Curtis and I decided that it was time to try baking our beer bread. We followed the recipe and when all was said and done, I thought that it was kind of gross. He loved it though, so it was ok. It was a fun experience in the end, because I got to buy beer.
